“$5000 Hairstyle on $5 Head” – Pastor Under Fire For Controversial Comment About Women
“It may be fashionable, but it’s pitiable to walk around with a $5,000 hairstyle on a $5 head”.
The comment, made by President of the West Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Pastor Glen Samuels left some persons angry and sparked a nationwide debate.
He made the controversial statement while he delivered the main address at the annual National Prayer Breakfast last week.

His remarks were not well received by social commentator and member of the Women’s Advocacy Group, 51% coalition, Judith Wedderburn.
She stated: “It is unfortunate that he chose to make the comparison that he did. First of all it is an unwise generalization to assume that a woman who has a $5,000 hairdo on her head, does have a $5 head. A $5 head is a most denigratory way to describe a woman’s capacity. It is just not wise, and I was offended by it.”
She also stated kind of generalization does not help women in communities facing a variety of odds.
