Slaves Of Our Own Making
Leading up the last election many Jamaicans myself included were touting our party alliances via online blogs and it got so bad that many were banned from pages because of the nasty rhetoric that went back and forth between Jamaicans in defense of said party alliances.
Today I sit back and observe that once again the same nastiness and vile comments are the order of the day as Jamaicans try to one up each other to see who can be more insulting to the other, and which party is responsible for wrecking the country etc.
The truth is while many of us want to tout alliances, both parties the JLP and the PNP are responsible for where Jamaica is today as country.
Both are responsible because, instead of putting country and people first over the years it has been about the JLP one upping the PNP and the PNP one upping the JLP.
This while the people continue to shout power and shower, but have yet to hold those to whom they give their votes accountable.
It is amazing to see Jamaicans dress in their orange and green, waving flags and singing their party anthems gather at numerous venues for their conferences and meetings, yet tell them to gather to protest against crime and violence, abuse of children, or for better health care, and all the other things that SHOULD matter, and no one cares.
How ironic is that?
So we find the time to big up our political alliances and our politicians, but cannot find the time to stand together for the betterment of our country and people?
What abject ignorance and illiteracy! So once again the political warfare continues on social media, while in the meantime since the start of the year to date there have been over 1000 murders, 54 of which were children.
Our young girls are being sexually abused by grown men, some of our police officers who took an oath to serve and protect are becoming paid assassins making women their target, health care is a farce, and the list goes on and on.
And we are still shouting shower and power under the banners of “from poverty to prosperity” and “we love the poor”.
Sadly it stands to reason, not only are we a third world country financially and economically, but we are backwards and illiterate in our thinking, and until we change that mode of thinking all the shower and the power will not help us one bit.
Check our history. If we have been independent for over 50 years under both the JLP and the PNP, and we are still killing and hurting each other in the name of political alliances, it stands to reason we are not one bit better than we were before independence.
Same set of slaves, just different slave masters.
