British Labour Leader: “We Owe A Lot to the Jamaican People” (Video)
Following the announcement of a scheduled visit to the island by the British Prime Minister – David Cameron last week there has been a surge in requests for reparations by many Jamaicans.
After arriving on the island, Prime Minister Cameron rejected Jamaica’s and the Caribbean’s requests to receive reparations for slavery by stating that he wanted to focus on the future, not historical wrongs, and Britain’s longstanding position was “that we do not believe reparations is the right approach.”
During an interview broadcasted by Channel 4 News today, UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn boldly stated:
“I spent my youth in Jamaica and the culture of Jamaica is an amazing and it’s a fantastic place. The wealth of this country, that came from Jamaica is the jewel in the empire’s crown. The wealth of the city of London came from there. We owe a lot to the Jamaican people.”
