Jamaican Entertainers Get Huge Resistance From Gay Rights Activists in Canada
Jamaican entertainers Queen Ifrica, Capleton and I-Wayne are now receiving backlash from gay rights activists in Canada.
They are scheduled to headline the Edmonton Reggae Festival later this summer in Alberta but have been getting resistance following accusations that they use anti-gay lyrics in some of their songs.
A complaint was also made to the Hate Crimes Unit of the Edmonton Police resulting in sponsors for the festival pulling their support.
Festival organizers have also been requested to drop the three acts and for the government to intervene.
Critics have also chastised Capleton and I-Wayne for having song lyrics that condemn same-sex relationships and encourage violence against the LGBTQ community.
Queen Ifrica was omitted from two international festivals in 2013 for her choice of words at an independence celebration. During her performance at that event she exclaimed “All a di ppl wah inna di national stadium, put up yuh han inna di air, all straight people, man an’ woman mi seh!”
According to human rights activist Murray Billet, a former member of the Edmonton Police Commission ” its extremely disappointing that in 2015 this issue still has to be dealt with”.
“Homophobia is wrong, no matter who is delivering the message”, he also said.

The artistes are entitled to freedom of expression. We still live in a country where we are allowed to speak against what we regard as wrong or immoral. As a people we are quite tolerant of homosexuals. As a matter of fact, people speak freely and fondly of their gay friends. I don’t know that we are especially or particularly violent toward gays. Our culture is what has caused us to express ourselves the ways in which we have. The conclusion of the whole matter is that there will always be ” gay and straight ” people and we will… Read more »

Thank God this world is not my home
What’s fine have freedom of speech in Jamaica but don’t expect any of us in the UK, Canada or anywhere else that won’t put up with discrimination to want any artiste to perform in our countries.
Freedom of Speech.I didnt go to the PRIDE parade my choice Im going to the Edmonton Reggae Festival my choice.
Rousting support for what you choose is promoting hate crimes against its natural opposite. Mmmm we should file a suit in the international court of justice against countries who have been tacitly promoting anti heterosexuality… Wouldn’t work though… The laws of Sodom and Gomorrah are made to promote sodomites and destroy all opposition, may the judgement of Yah come upon planet earth and once more create Righteousness upon the lands.
Homosexuals also like to force their lifestyles on others. Nobody cares that you are gay. Stop trying to force it on others. Turn about is fair play. I am going to force my heterosexuality on homosexuals. Let’s see how they like it.
I am sure these Jamaican artists have such a huge Caribbean following that losing a few Canadian fans won’t hurt. Stop making it seem like the gay community have all this power.

Supporting my country’s sovereign right to enact laws which reflect the views of the majority of the Jamaican people without outside interference from other nations with hidden agendas. Do you think Jamaicans could interfere with the way America or England or any other European nation choose to govern its people. So. How dare you? For instance most Jamaicans are disgusted by the appalling racism which is so pervasive in America. America treat black people like garbage. Fix your own problems before you tell other nations how to fix theirs. As for you homosexuals, if you don’t like the treatment you… Read more »
The way in which America, England Great Britain and other European nations treat black people isn’t discrimination? Why aren’t other nations up in arms about that. Shouldn’t we be marching and opposing that. Why aren’t other nations holding them accountable?
Oh yes did I hear the word morals! There are loads of gays in Jamaica, stop kidding yourselves.
You think you are free but are ya ?
This thing with these people is getting out of hand are these people serious are they forcing their own lifestyle on other telling us to accept them even if their way is not ours they have their rights to live the way they want and we have our rights to choose who to accept should we accept child molesters too if they keep pushing it soon their will be a connotations and it going to be good against evil the evil of trying to take away free will better they do what they want and leave others to like who… Read more »
