A Tale of Woe – Downtown Vendors complain of Terrible Sales
It has been a woeful Christmas for vendors in Downtown Kingston as many claim they have been not been able to make adequate sales.
The expression on the faces of most of the vendors, who still had their wares on display in anticipation of sales on Christmas Grand Market morning, told a tale of utter distress.
Most complained that they had not made a profit and that this year’s sales were the worst ever.
“Santa still hitch up the mango tree,” one male vendor said as he grimaced while looking at the full slate of shoes and slippers spread out on a tarpaulin at South Parade.
Across the street, close to the walls of the Kingston Parish Church, Micheal Smith sells jeans and other garments. His complaint was the same.
“It is not Christmas again. It treat we rough,” Smith said with a dejected look on his face.
Valerie Bennett sells sunglasses close to Smith and never had to be asked about her experience.
“Nothing no go on Papa. Is the worst December this from me born and I am 54. Me nuh sell nutten and me have children to feed. I don’t even buy my Christmas dinner yet,” she said loudly.

Everyday as I read articles and news from Beautiful Jamaica, I am filled with feelings of despair for the people and extreme disappointment at the state of the island. Eternal Father bless our land and thanks for the fond memories.
People only need to buy what they want, when they want it, not because it’s a holiday.
i suspect that most people had the same experience
