Jamaica’s Tuffy Anderson Being compared to Drogba
Jamaica’s National striker Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson is now back in the island following a successful trial run for the newly formed Indy Eleven, a new franchise in the North American Soccer League. While there, constant comparisons were made of him and Ivorian superstar Didier Drogba.
Didier Drogba (pictured left below) is the captain and all-time top scorer of the Côte d’Ivoire national football team. He is best known for his career at Chelsea, for whom he scored more goals than any other foreign player and is currently the club’s fourth highest goal scorer of all time.
According to ‘Tuffy’, his constant ability to find the back of the net coupled with his strong frame, similar to the current Galatasary hitman Drogba, led to the comparisons being made during the week-long stint.
“I scored in every training session. They called me Drogba,” Anderson said.
Following his return to the island, he quickly resumed his hobby of scoring goals by putting away two penalties that ensured a 2-1 come-from-behind win for Waterhouse against Sporting Central Academy in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) round-six action at Waterhouse Stadium.
Anderson, showed his class by scoring both penalties in calm fashion in the 56th and 65th minute. Sporting Central got an early lead when Cory Hylton beat Waterhouse goalkeeper Kelson Cousins to give his team a 1-0 lead at the break.
It was a must win game according to Anderson as he had said that it was important for the team to win the game as the league race was tight.
“It is my point of duty to score goals. I wasn’t here for about a week as I was at trial. The team (Waterhouse) trained without me, but I know how the team plays, so I came back and did my job. We have to keep up with the leaders. It was important to win tonight,” Anderson said.
