Increased Internet Access for Jamaicans

In a drive to provide internet access to more Jamaicans, the government is aiming to set up 165 additional Community Access Point facilities island-wide.

The community access points are are to be installed with the assistance of community organisations via funding from the Universal Service Fund.

Earlier today Minister of State in the Technology Ministry, Julian Robinson stated 133 facilities have already been setup across the island. He said an additional 47 projects are underway.

The Community Access Point facilities are equipped with computers,internet access and other equipment.

  

According to the 2011 Population and Housing Census, of 881,078 households, 612,706 have no computers. The figures also showed that only 163,314 households indicated that they have internet access.
