Fraser Pryce Triumphs in Doha
Double Olympic 100 meters champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was the only Jamaican winner today at the opening meet of the 2013 IAAF Diamond League series in Doha.
Pryce on her way to recording a second win in a week, led home a Jamaican 1-2 in the women’s 200m, winning in 22.48 seconds to finish ahead of compatriot Sherone Simpson 22.73 with Samantha Henry-Robinson clocking 22.97 seconds to finish in 4th place.
Olympic sprint relay gold medallist Nesta Carter took third spot in the men’s 100m in in a season best 9.99 seconds, the same time as second place Mike Rodgers of the USA, while Justin Gatlin won in 9.97 seconds.
Jacques Harvey placed down the track in 7th in 10.17 seconds while Kim Collins was 4th in 10.04 seconds.
The last Jamaican on the track, Shericka Williams, had to settle for 6th in the women’s 400m, she was timed at 52.23 seconds.
World champion Amantle Montsho of Botswana landed the event in a world leading time of 49.88 seconds with Allyson Felix second in 50.19 seconds and Christine Ohurugho 3rd in a season best 50.53 seconds.
Dawn Harper produced a world leading 12.60 seconds to hold off fellow American KellieWells, who clocked 12.73 in the 100m hurdles.
Ryan Whiting of the United States improved on his world leading performance last week in Kingston with another big effort of 22.28 metres in the men’s shot put.
