Leon Bailey, the Jamaican-born teenager, is a wanted man by English Premiership leaders Manchester City.

The 19-year-old, who last week notched a brace for Genk in the Belgium side’s Europa League 3-2 defeat against Rapid Vienna, is firmly under the scrutiny of the Premiership side.

Bailey, who plays for the Jamaica Under‎-23 side, has a £3.2m release clause in his contract, joined Genk four years ago and went on loan to Ajax.

And the whizzy winger, who was named as the best young player in Belgium last term, is suddenly attracting attention from leading teams in England, Italy and Spain.

Manchester City is potentially his next step as they already have a former Genk Academy player in their ranks in the shape of attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

Ronald De Boer, who had Bailey briefly on loan at Ajax in the Netherlands, enthused: ‎”He’s got it all, and like other players underwent a series of tests at the club.

“When it came to speed and agility he did better than several first-team boys.

“He’s so quick and couples that with great technique for an exceptional combination.”

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz, recently ousted out of their 2018 World Cup qualifiers before the final group games, are currently in total disarray under current head coach Winfried Schäfer.

Although someone of Bailey’s exceptional talent would boost the Boyz, it is likely that if the teenage sensation plied his trade in England then he would opt to compete on the international stage for a different team rather than continue playing for Jamaica.

Not that Jamaica are a poor side, because they possess numerous talented individuals. But the harsh reality is that the Boyz are simply not going to light up world football and Bailey’s talents deserve to be seen at the World Cup Finals.
