Jamaica’s Shenneika Smith Drafted in the WNBA

The Jamaica Basketball Association is still in a celebratory mood following the achievement of Sheneika Smith who has been drafted as the 25thoverall pick by the Washington Mystics in the third round of the WNBA Draft.

Smith who played for St. John’s University was a member of the Jamaican team that competed at the 2012 Centrobasket Tournament in Puerto Rico.

During her college career, she led St. John’s in scoring in each of her final three seasons and finished ranked third, fourth, and fifth, respectively, in school history in blocks, scoring, rebounding.

Last season she had 19 double-figure scoring efforts, including 10 games of 20-or-more points. Led St. John’s in scoring (fifth in BIG EAST) and rebounding (10th) the entire season, posting personal bests in both categories, and was a key reason SJU ranked in top five nationally in blocks all year.

  

Her achievements on the court last season saw her earning all-big east conference first team honours for the second straight year.

2011-12: An All-BIG EAST First Team after leading SJU in scoring, she also led Red Storm in rebs./game and total blocks. Star turn came Feb. 18 when she sunk game-winning, 3-point shot vs. then-No. 2 ranked UConn’s 99-game home winning-streak. 2010-11: As a sophomore, led Red Storm in scoring en route to earning All-BIG EAST Second Team honors.

Her star moment took place on February 18 last year when scored the game-winning three-point shot versus then number two ranked uconn to end the huskies 99 game home winning streak.
