Reggae Boyz Meet Bermuda in Opening Game of World Cup Qualifying Final Round

Jamaica’s national senior men’s football squad will begin their Concacaf final round World Cup qualifying campaign with a meeting against Bermuda at the National Stadium in Hamilton today (September 5), starting at 5 p.m. Jamaica time.

Rankings show that Bermuda sit at 162nd in the world, while the Reggae Boyz occupy the 70th position, a gap of 92 places.

Despite the disparity, head coach Steve McClaren has insisted that his side must remain sharp, describing the fixture as one that could present challenges.

Leading the Bermuda line is Nahki Wells, a forward at English League One club Luton Town, who is regarded as the island’s most recognised player.

Having previously worked with Wells during his time in charge at Queens Park Rangers, McClaren has first-hand knowledge of the 35-year-old striker’s qualities and has emphasised the threat he brings.

Attention will quickly turn to the second qualifier for Jamaica, which comes next Tuesday at 7 p.m. inside the National Stadium, where they will meet Trinidad and Tobago.

On the same Friday evening, Trinidad and Tobago will face Curacao in the other fixture of the group.
