Isaac Hayden Reportedly Switching International Allegiance to Jamaica as Reggae Boyz Strengthen Squad for 2026 World Cup
Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden is on the verge of changing his international allegiance from England to Jamaica, according to reports from TEAMtalk.
Despite representing England at various youth levels, Hayden never secured a senior cap, allowing him to make the switch under FIFA regulations.
The 29-year-old, who is eligible to represent Jamaica through his father, has agreed to join Steve McClaren’s Reggae Boyz as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The final paperwork is being processed, and the switch is expected to be completed ahead of Jamaica’s upcoming November matches.
This move aligns with McClaren’s strategy to enhance Jamaica’s squad by bringing in English-born players with Jamaican heritage.
Hayden, who joined Newcastle from Arsenal in 2016, has played 171 games for the club but has struggled for game time under Eddie Howe. He spent last season on loan at Standard Liege and Queens Park Rangers.
Hayden’s decision follows a year of reflection, having previously expressed reluctance to displace a Jamaican-born player.
However, he has now committed to joining Jamaica’s national team, adding much-needed depth as the Reggae Boyz target a place at the 2026 World Cup, to be hosted in North America.
This recruitment drive by McClaren also includes players like Mason Greenwood, the former Manchester United forward, who is reportedly making the same switch.
Hayden’s addition is expected to boost the Reggae Boyz’s chances as they look to make an impact on the global stage.
