Shericka Jackson Sets Diamond League Meet Record in Women’s 200m
Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson Shines in Brussels
Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson made headlines at the Diamond League meet in Brussels on Friday by setting a Meet Record in the women’s 200 meters.
While she may not have quite reached the elusive World Record, her performance was nothing short of spectacular.
Competing from lane six, Jackson faced some early challenges in the race but quickly recovered.
As she powered down the straight, she left her competitors in the dust and crossed the finish line in a blazing 21.48 seconds, aided by a slight tailwind of 0.2 meters per second.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Jackson’s achievement is that she not only secured victory but also shattered the previous Meet Record, which had stood since 1991.
The former record, set by another Jamaican track legend, Merlene Ottey, was 21.64 seconds.
With this victory and record-breaking performance under her belt, Shericka Jackson is now setting her sights on an even greater achievement: the World Record.
The current Women’s 200m World Record of 21.34 seconds has been held by American track icon Florence Griffith-Joyner since 1988.
