Another Dominant Victory For Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls at Vitality Netball World Cup!
On Wednesday, the Sunshine Girls once again showcased their undeniable brilliance on the netball court with an awe-inspiring performance against Trinidad and Tobago.
In a match filled with stunning displays of skill and teamwork, the Sunshine Girls triumphed with a resounding scoreline of 89-26 in Cape Town, South Africa.
Led by the exceptional Romelda Aiken-George, who was in top form, the Sunshine Girls dominated the game from the opening whistle.
Aiken-George’s shooting prowess was unmatched as she netted an impressive 37 goals from 42 attempts.
Adding to the firepower, Shanice Beckford scored 20 goals from 24 attempts, setting the stage for the team’s commanding victory.
The Sunshine Girls capitalised on their opportunities to open an 8-1 lead in the early stages. Their fast and fluent transitions left Trinidad and Tobago struggling to maintain composure, resulting in a substantial 20-6 lead for Jamaica at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter followed a similar script, with the Jamaican tempo and flair leaving their opponents struggling to find their rhythm. And by halftime the Sunshine Girls were leading 44-10.
In the third quarter, the introduction of Captain Jhaniele Fowler further bolstered Jamaica’s scoring momentum. Despite Trinidad and Tobago putting up a better scoring period with nine goals, they found themselves facing an insurmountable 69-19 deficit heading into the final quarter.
With the game well in hand, Sunshine Girls Head Coach Connie Francis took the opportunity to explore various combinations, giving rising sensation Crystal Plummer a chance at centre and moving Adean Thomas to wing attack.
This strategy paid off handsomely, as Aiken-George and Rebekah Robinson continued their scoring spree, sealing the blowout victory.
