Shericka Jackson Reigns Supreme with Blistering 10.65 Run in Women’s 100m Triumph!

Shericka Jackson delivered another impressive performance during the National Senior and Junior Championships at the National Stadium on Friday night.

She successfully defended her title in the women’s 100m event, setting a world-leading time of 10.65 seconds.

What made her achievement even more remarkable was that it also marked a new personal best for Jackson, surpassing her previous record of 10.71 seconds, which she set on August 10, 2022.

Interestingly, her outstanding performance came just a day after Sha’Carri Richardson, an American sprinter, clocked 10.71 seconds at the US Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, which was the fastest time in the world at that point.

Right from the start, Jackson demonstrated her explosive power as she burst off the blocks. She maintained her dominance throughout the race and crossed the finish line well ahead of Shashalee Forbes from Sprintec Track Club, who secured second place with a time of 10.96 seconds.

Natasha Morrison from MVP Track Club finished third, clocking 10.98 seconds, while Briana Williams from Titans Track Club claimed fifth place in 11.01 seconds.

Elaine Thompson-Herah, the double-double Olympic sprint champion and the second-fastest woman in history with a Jamaican national record of 10.54 seconds, had a disappointing fifth-place finish in the race.

Her time was 11.06 seconds, which meant her aspirations of representing Jamaica in the women’s 100m event at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, came to an end.

It is worth noting that Jamaica will be well represented in the women’s 100m event at the World Athletics Championships. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, a five-time world 100m champion, automatically qualifies as the defending champion, ensuring that Jamaica will have four representatives in the prestigious competition.
