Reggae Girls Drafted Into National Women’s Soccer League
Jamaica’s governing body of football recently revealed that two Reggae Girlz have been drafted into the National Women’s Soccer League. The JFF has also offered high praises for both players.
Via a release, the JFF said:
“The Jamaica Football Federation is extremely proud of the captain of the National Women’s Senior team, Konya Plummer and defender Chantelle Swaby who today were drafted into the National Women’s Soccer League. Konya was selected by Orlando Pride in the second round (10th overall) and Chantellle by the Sky Blue FC (29th overall) of the 2020 NWSL College Draft.
Plummer is originally from St. Mary and has captained the Jamaican team right through the period of its qualification to the FIFA Women’s World Cup and at the World Cup itself. In France she played every minute in all of Jamaica’s games. In 2019 she was named American Athletic Conference Player of the year.
Konya played for Rangers FC and Harbour View Women’s FC in the local women’s league before developing her craft overseas. She has represented Jamaica at the Under 15:17 and 20 level.
Chantelle who was also in France for Jamaica started all three games there and has played for Rutgers University where she studied Sport Management. She played a crucial role for Jamaica in the Qualifiers leading up to the World Cup.
This boost in the career of the two players comes at a time when they now look to play their respective roles for the Jamaican senior women’s team in the Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifiers.”
