Patient in Jamaica To Be Tested For Zika Virus
According to the Health Ministry a patient is being tested for viruses including, zika, dengue and chikungunya.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Marion Bullock DuCasse stated the ministry is taking the precaution to rule out the zika virus, in particular, which has never been identified in Jamaica or this region outside of Brazil.
Zika virus is transmitted by mosquitoes and causes a disease known as Zika fever in humans.
Symptoms of Zika virus disease (Zika) include fever, rash, joint pain, and red eye though the illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting from several days to a week.
Executive Director of CARPHA, Dr James Hospedales also stated the results of the tests should be available by Friday.
