Nicholas Walters Loses World Boxing Title After Failing to Make Weight

Jamaica’s “Axeman” – Nicholas Walters has been stripped of his featherweight world title ahead of his fight against Colombian fighter Miguel Marriaga which takes place on Saturday night at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Walters weighed in at 127.4 pounds, 1.4 pounds over the maximum allowed weight of 126 pounds allowed for his division.

Under New York State Athletic Commission rules he was given two hours to try and lose the extra weight but after he returned to the scale almost two hours later he was still 127 pounds and he was stripped of the belt.

Despite losing his world title, he will still face Mariagga as scheduled but only Marriaga will be eligible to win the title which is now vacant.
