Jamaica’s Medal Tally Soars at Carifta Games

Jamaica as expected is dominating at the 44th staging of the Carifta Games in St Kitts.

Jamaica’s athletes won 12 gold medals on Saturday, bringing their total medal haul to 27.

Among the gold medal winners on Saturday were Christophe Bryan, Demar Gayle and Sahjay Stevens, Lisa Buchannan, Shevon Parks and Shemar Lawrence.

Bryan managed to equal the games record of 2.21 meters as he captured the boys under 20 high jump.

  

Edwin Allens’s Gayle hurled an impressive distance of 53.45 meters to take the boys discuss throw while Stevens captured the girls shot put with a throw of 16.31 meters.

The under 20 girls 1500 meters belonged to Lisa Buchannan who captured that event in 4 minutes 39.50 ahead of teammate Sasha Gay White.

The boys under 20 saw Shevon Parks winning the event while Shemar salmon won the under 18 1500 in 4 minutes 02.98 seconds ahead of Keenan Lawrence who copped the bronze.

Jamaica earned only two gold medals in the 100 meters sprints and they were courtesy of the girls as the boys missed the gold in both the under 18 and under 20 categories

Shellice Clarke earned gold in the under 18 girl’s final running a respectable  11.50 seconds.

Michael O’hara, the under 20 boys 100 metres final ISSA/boys male top performer was second best as he earned silver in 10.33 seconds, with team mate Raheem Chambers 10.44 seconds third. The race won by Mario Burke or Barbados 10.21 seconds.
