What would Martin Luther King say about Jamaica Now?
Today is being celebrated as Martin Luther King day in the USA.
As a Jamaican I remember when this great man used Jamaica as an example when fighting for CIVIL RIGHTS for BLACK PEOPLE in the USA.
I wonder what his thoughts on the country of Jamaica would be today.
Dr. King had this to say about Jamaica and Jamaicans: “Here you have people from many national backgrounds: Chinese, Indians, so-called Negroes, and you can just go down the line, Europeans, and people from many, many nations.
Do you know they all live there and they have a motto in Jamaica, “Out of many people, one people.”
And they say, “Here in Jamaica we are not Chinese, (Make it plain) we are not Japanese, we are not Indians, we are not Negroes, we are not Englishmen, we are not Canadians. But we are all one big family of Jamaicans.”
One day, here in America, I hope that we will see this and we will become one big family of Americans.”
Today as a Jamaican I am deeply ASHAMED to see what we have become.
Imagine this great man had a dream about UNITY and saw that same UNITY on his visit to Jamaica, yet here we are today saying that Jamaicans who are NOT BLACK enough are not Jamaicans.
We have become the THIRD most murderous country in the world, and we are so POLITICALLY DIVIDED that wearing the mere colors of GREEN or ORANGE in the wrong place can get you KILLED.
HOW SAD IS THAT?
As a people truly WE HAVE FAILED OURSELVES and our CHILDREN, for a country that had so much to offer.
To see what we have become SPEAKS VOLUMES about HOW WE THINK, and the LACK of LOVE and UNITY among us.
On Social Media every day we see JLP and PNP supporters engage in verbal disputes, and to what end?
To simply put POLITICIANS on a PEDESTAL and make GODS out of them while COUNTRY and PEOPLE perish?
HOW SAD IS THAT?
A people with no knowledge of their past are seriously bound to perish.
“He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
Sad that Jamaica has reached a stage of un-paralaled division with hate !
It is a dam disgrace where we are at the moment and there is no coming back for Jamaica we are not a family just a government of liars and thieves but as long as Jamaicans fall asleep to what going on they will not be able to help themselves.
Jamaica is a land of beauty restricted by political boundaries and poverty. for us to make it like it was in the beginning we first have to eradicate political segretation, greedy polititions must be bared from holding power e.g. in my area the member of parliament Derrick Kellier a local boy who know what it is to live in around Roehampton Lawson Mafoota just to name a few of the areas now lacking of the basic amendities that people should be entitle to i.e. running water he represents us for so long and if i can recall many moons ago… Read more »
