Jamaican 15-year-old Raphael Morgan joins Inter Miami Academy

Jamaican teenager Raphael Morgan has taken a significant step in his young football career, joining Inter Miami CF Academy’s Under-16 team at just 15 years old.

Morgan, the son of Morgan Heritage member Mojo Morgan, is now developing within the academy system of the MLS club where Argentine superstar Lionel Messi plays.

His move was quickly followed by international recognition. Approximately one week after joining Inter Miami’s academy, Morgan was called up to the Puerto Rico Under-16 national team. His mother is Puerto Rican.

The Jamaican youngster currently plays primarily at left back, but much of his football development has been spent further up the field.

Before making the transition into defence, Morgan featured as a left winger, right winger, attacking midfielder and striker.

That experience has helped shape him into an attack-minded full-back capable of pushing forward, overlapping and carrying the ball into advanced areas.

His attacking ability was particularly evident during his previous season with Orlando City Soccer School South, where he produced an impressive 47 goals and 38 assists.

Despite now being used mainly in defence, Morgan’s experience across the front line gives him the versatility to contribute offensively and operate further forward when required.

Before his move to Inter Miami, the 15-year-old developed at Orlando City Soccer School South, where he was initially groomed as an attacking player.
