Jamaican referee Oshane Nation continues to make history on football’s biggest stage after serving as fourth official during Austria’s 3-1 victory over Jordan at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The assignment marked Nation’s second involvement at the tournament after making his World Cup debut earlier in the competition as fourth official for the Group B clash between Switzerland and Qatar.

Nation was part of the officiating team led by Mauritanian referee Dahane Beida for the Group J encounter, which saw Austria secure a winning start to their campaign against World Cup debutants Jordan.

The 35-year-old Jamaican is among the match officials selected by FIFA for the expanded 48-team World Cup being staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

His inclusion ended a 24-year wait for a Jamaican referee at the tournament following the participation of legendary official Peter Prendergast at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Nation’s World Cup journey is set to continue quickly, with FIFA assigning him as fourth official for the Group D clash between Paraguay and Turkey on June 19. The match is scheduled to be played at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.

His growing list of appointments highlights the confidence FIFA has placed in Jamaican officiating and represents another proud moment for local football as Nation continues to fly the Jamaican flag at the sport’s premier event.
