Bolt Races into Roblox

Twenty-seven Jamaicans are preparing to compete at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship, but Usain Bolt will also have a presence around the event — this time in the virtual world.

The retired Jamaican sprint legend has been incorporated into Track & Field: Infinite on Roblox as part of a World Athletics takeover of the popular athletics game.

Players will encounter a non-player character version of Bolt and can attempt challenges linked to times established by his virtual character.

A US$10 million prize purse will be on offer when the Ultimate Championship is held from September 11-13. The new competition will bring together world champions, Olympic champions, Wanda Diamond League winners and leading athletes from the current rankings in a battle to determine the champion of champions.

Away from the real-world competition, players in Track & Field: Infinite can participate in events including sprints, hurdles, jumps and relays. Gold stars can be collected by completing different objectives, which range from winning races to beating designated times.

World Athletics has partnered with Track & Field: Infinite, described as the most popular athletics experience on Roblox, to extend fan involvement beyond the championship itself.

The takeover allows users around the world to compete against friends and pursue places on a global leaderboard, providing another way for fans to interact with athletics after the elite competition has finished.

Bolt’s role is restricted to the digital experience, while Jamaica’s 27-member contingent will compete on the track and in the field during the three-day championship.

The Roblox collaboration forms part of a wider series of innovations being introduced alongside the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, a new event created to bring several of the sport’s leading performers together in one competition.
