JCF Confirms Procurement of 1,000 Body-Worn Cameras as Rollout Progresses

Completion of the procurement process for 1,000 body-worn cameras has been confirmed by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, with deployment now said to be at an advanced stage.
According to the JCF, the Axon Body Camera III units are being rolled out with particular attention given to police formations that record high levels of interaction with members of the public.
Operational requirements, readiness of personnel, and established governance arrangements are guiding the deployment process, the force indicated.
Meanwhile, efforts are continuing to secure an additional 1,000 body-worn cameras as part of the broader initiative.
Plans outlined by the JCF indicate that both the acquisition and deployment of the second batch are expected to be completed during the next financial year.
Within the organisation’s broader reform efforts, the procurement and rollout of body-worn cameras are described as central elements of the force’s transformation and accountability agenda.
Through the introduction of these devices, the JCF aims to formally embed accountability mechanisms that apply to both police officers and citizens during interactions.
By creating an objective and verifiable record of police–citizen encounters, the technology is intended to uphold lawful conduct, protect citizens’ rights, and provide safeguards for officers who operate within the law.
The availability of recorded evidence is also expected to reduce false allegations, assist in dispute resolution, and strengthen internal oversight processes.
Long regarded by the JCF as a cornerstone of modernisation, the use of body-worn cameras reflects an ongoing commitment to professional, transparent, and technology-driven policing.
Ultimately, the initiative is positioned as a major step toward improving transparency, boosting public confidence, and reinforcing trust in policing through verifiable facts rather than competing narratives.
