Reggae Boyz Lose Key Attacker Before Friday’s World Cup Qualifier
Demarai Gray has been ruled out of Jamaica’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Curaçao, dealing a significant blow to the Reggae Boyz ahead of Friday’s fixture.
The Birmingham City winger sustained a groin injury during Tuesday’s training session and is expected to fly back to England later this evening for further assessment.
His absence comes as a major setback for head coach Steve McClaren, who now faces the challenge of reshuffling his attacking options just days before kickoff.
Preparation for the qualifier began with the squad gathering in Kingston on Monday, followed by their first full training session on Tuesday.
The team completed final drills at Sabina Park earlier today before their scheduled departure for Curaçao this afternoon.
Having only recently recovered from a previous injury that kept him out of the last qualifying window, Gray had been recalled to the national set-up on Saturday after regaining fitness.
His latest setback is sure to frustrate both the player and Jamaica’s technical staff, who were eager to see him back in action.
Even without Gray, the Reggae Boyz remain focused on maintaining their strong form in the qualifying campaign and are determined to keep building momentum toward securing a place at the 2026 World Cup.
