Dr. Aldyth Buckland Scores Prestigious World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) 5-Star Award for the North America Region

Dr. Aldyth Buckland, one of Jamaica’s finest family physicians, was recently awarded the World Organisation of Family Doctors (WONCA) 5-Star Doctor Award as the Family Physician for the North America Region (2024).

This distinguished family doctor has once again put Jamaica in the spotlight among high-achieving small island states.

From reggae music to Miss World, Miss Universe, delicious dishes, and being the sprint capital of the world, Jamaica never ceases to surprise. And now, Jamaica is again recognized in the field of medicine through the hard work and dedication of a celebrated family physician — Dr. Aldyth Buckland.

While the world has recognized Jamaican medical scientists such as Drs. Manley West, Albert Lockhart, and Henry Lowe, the island nation has now produced an award-winning family doctor — a celebrated physician who practices integrative medicine in a holistic way and keenly listens to and works with her patients to optimize their health and lifestyle habits.

At the World Conference of the World Organization of Family Doctors, held in Lisbon, Portugal, the prestigious award was conferred upon this daughter of Jamaican soil on September 20, 2025.

Buckland’s award signifies that Jamaica is truly recognized for having a medical practitioner whose practice aligns with the core values of WONCA. She has demonstrated over the years, since beginning her medical practice, that she is an excellent care provider, communicator, decision-maker, manager, and community leader.

Dr. Buckland guides, counsels, and coaches. Her patients, and those who come to know or interact with her, will tell you that she is a different kind of doctor — one who is truly called to serve her people and to provide the best care and counseling possible. Personally, I have found her to be the best physician I have encountered.

Dr. Buckland received her General Practitioner and Family Doctor training from the Association of General Practitioners of Jamaica and the Caribbean College of Family Physicians – Jamaica Chapter. She has been accredited by the CCFP since 1994 and ensures that her accreditations remain current. She has also been trained and certified in various holistic practices that optimize patient care and self-care.

She works both independently and collaboratively on projects that matter — projects that help ensure we all have a healthier planet and reduce our health risks to become healthier people. Dr. Buckland consistently serves her patients and clients from her modest office in Kingston, Jamaica, and this stands as a testimony to her loyalty and devotion to her people and to the nation of Jamaica at large.

Her service is guided by her mantra: “Trust God, be kind, and feel good!”

We, too, can score for Jamaica!
