Netball Youth Cup: Jamaica’s Young Sunshine Girls Reach Last Eight

Quarter-final qualification has been confirmed for Jamaica’s Young Sunshine Girls at the Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar, even though they were beaten 64-33 by England in their closing group-stage encounter.

By finishing with six points, the Jamaicans secured second position in Pool ‘C’, while England wrapped up first place with a flawless tally of eight points.

A lightning start from the English pushed them into an 18-9 advantage after the opening quarter, and by halftime the gap had widened to 36-17.

During the third quarter, the Jamaicans displayed resilience but still trailed 46-27 before the English side tightened their grip further in the last stanza, ending with a 31-goal cushion.

Their next challenge will be against Pool ‘B’ winners Australia in the last eight, while Scotland will take on England after finishing second in that section.

Pool ‘A’ saw New Zealand end on top following a massive 95-8 demolition of hosts Gibraltar.

Northern Ireland had no answer to Samoa, who coasted to a 69-29 win.

Singapore were comfortably beaten 60-35 by Scotland.

A dominant 86-35 result went South Africa’s way over Fiji.

Barbados were comprehensively outplayed by Malawi, who marched to a commanding 70-23 success.
