Holness to Announce Election Date at JLP Mass Rally Today!

Dr Andrew Holness, Prime Minister and Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), has told the party’s Central Executive that the date for the next General Election will be revealed during its mass rally today, August 10, 2025, in Half Way Tree, St Andrew.

This announcement was made during a meeting of the JLP’s Central Executive on Saturday.

Party representatives were urged by Holness to engage the electorate with humility while maintaining a strong focus on improving lives across Jamaica and ensuring that every citizen can share in the vision of prosperity.

He also directed members to prioritise finding solutions to the concerns of their constituents as they seek either election or re-election.

Campaigns, according to Holness, should be conducted with dignity and in accordance with the JLP’s standards of decency, decorum and professionalism.

The JLP leader stated that the party will maintain its emphasis on highlighting its track record and commitment to implementing policies and programmes that benefit Jamaicans.

Holness pointed to achievements such as economic stability, more than 20 consecutive quarters of growth, eight years without introducing new taxes, and a significant reduction in violent crimes, including murders.

A record low unemployment rate and reduced levels of poverty were also highlighted.

Measures aimed at addressing cost of living pressures, he said, include an increased income tax threshold, the solidarity programme, and a rise of over 150 per cent in the minimum wage.

Formal confirmation of all selected standard bearers in the country’s 63 constituencies was carried out by the Central Executive on Saturday, in keeping with the party’s constitutional requirements.
