Chelsea Sign Jamaica Goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer on Permanent Deal
Jamaica international goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer has completed a permanent move to Chelsea FC Women following a successful loan spell from Tottenham Hotspur.
Spending the final three months of the 2024/25 season at Chelsea, Spencer returned to familiar territory to provide crucial cover.
Previously, she represented Chelsea between 2016 and 2018, making her recent stint a homecoming of sorts.
At 34 years old, she was brought in after injuries to Femke Liefting and Zecira Musovic’s pregnancy left the Blues short on goalkeeping options.
Though largely a backup, her presence proved vital to squad stability during the club’s title run.
On the bench for all but two of Chelsea’s remaining Women’s Super League matches, she remained a consistent part of the matchday squad.
Thanks in part to her experience and leadership, Chelsea secured a historic domestic treble to close out the season.
Now preparing for the 2025/26 campaign, the club has opted to sign Spencer on a one-year deal.
Under the new agreement, there is also an option to extend her stay through to 2027.
Since debuting for Jamaica in 2021, she has earned 19 caps and played a major role for the Reggae Girlz.
Included in the squad that advanced to the second round at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Spencer helped the team make history on the world stage.
