Reggae Girl Allyson Swaby Joins Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace has bolstered its defensive line by signing 28-year-old international defender Allyson Swaby on a two-year deal that runs until June 2027, pending international clearance.
Swaby, who most recently played for AC Milan in Italy, joins the club in a permanent transfer that marks her sixth professional outfit since launching her career with Icelandic side Knattspyrnufélag Fjarðabyggðar (KFF) in 2018.
After making only 12 appearances in Iceland, Swaby’s talent quickly took her to Italian giants AS Roma, where she spent three seasons and lifted the Coppa Italia.
Her career journey then led her to the United States with Angel City FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), followed by a brief loan spell with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in France, before returning to Italy with AC Milan.
“I’m super excited to be here. I’m really looking forward to being able to step on to the pitch with the team and just get straight to work,” Swaby said ahead of her anticipated debut for Palace.
Her arrival is seen as a significant boost for a side currently languishing at the bottom of the Women’s Super League standings, with just five points from 12 games and the league’s poorest defensive record.
Crystal Palace head coach Laura Kaminski welcomed the defender’s arrival, highlighting her extensive experience and leadership qualities as vital assets for the team.
“Allyson is a fantastic addition to the squad. She brings experience, leadership, and real defensive quality. She’s played at the highest level in both club and international football, and we’re excited to see the impact she’ll have here at Palace,” Kaminski said.
Swaby’s move also adds to the growing presence of Jamaican internationals in the WSL. Her sister, Chantelle Swaby, joined Leicester City earlier this season, while Khadija “Bunny” Shaw continues to impress for Manchester City.
Other Jamaican players making their mark include Tottenham Hotspur’s Drew Spence and Rebecca Spencer, alongside Liverpool’s Taylor Hinds.
