Jaydon Hibbert’s 17.75m Triple Jump Record Officially Ratified by World Athletics
Jamaican athlete Jaydon Hibbert has received official recognition from World Athletics for his World Under-20 triple jump record of 17.75m, set at the Racers Grand Prix on June 1, 2024, at Kingston’s National Stadium.
The record-breaking jump surpassed his previous U20 mark of 17.66m, achieved in Monaco on July 21, 2023.
Hibbert’s remarkable performance in Kingston featured a consistent series of jumps, starting with 16.45m, followed by 17.14m and 17.30m, before his fourth-round leap of 17.75m set both a meeting record and a world U20 record.
The achievement was made even more impressive by a headwind of -0.7m/s.
“I was satisfied with the third and fourth jumps of the series,” Hibbert shared after the event.
“I feel splendid. I wanted to jump 17.70m, so 17.75m is a bonus.”
Later in the year, Hibbert delivered another standout performance, finishing fourth in the Olympic triple jump final in Paris with a leap of 17.61m, narrowly missing the bronze medal by just three centimetres.
His 17.75m effort at the Racers Grand Prix also secured him third place on the 2024 global top list, behind Olympic medalists Jordan Alejandro Diaz Fortun and Pedro Pichardo.
Hibbert’s stellar 2024 campaign has earned him a nomination for Men’s Rising Star at the prestigious World Athletics Awards.
