Reggae Boy Michail Antonio Undergoes Surgery After Road Traffic Accident

Jamaican international Michail Antonio is recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery for a lower limb fracture sustained in a road traffic accident on Saturday.

The 34-year-old was airlifted to hospital following the incident, with his club West Ham confirming that he remains in a stable condition.

Alleged images of a damaged vehicle believed to be involved surfaced on social media, although it has not been verified whether the vehicle was Antonio’s.

In a statement, West Ham expressed their gratitude to emergency responders and medical teams:

“West Ham United can confirm Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon. Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days.

“Everyone at the Club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday’s news, as well as extending a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery.”

Antonio, one of West Ham’s longest-serving players, joined the club from Nottingham Forest in 2015 and has scored 83 goals in 323 appearances across all competitions.

He has made 21 appearances for the Reggae Boyz, scoring five goals.
