Bunny Shaw Ranked 4th Among World’s Best Female Footballers
Reggae Girl Khadija “Bunny” Shaw has been ranked the fourth-best female footballer in the world, according to the prestigious Top 100 Players list compiled by British newspaper The Guardian.
Shaw’s historic rise into the top five comes after a phenomenal 2023-2024 season with Manchester City in the Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL).
She clinched the Golden Boot award, scoring 21 goals despite missing the latter part of the campaign due to injury.
Shaw also etched her name in history by surpassing Georgia Stanway to become Manchester City’s all-time leading scorer.
Her impressive achievements include sweeping top honours such as the WSL Player of the Season, the Professional Football Association (PFA) Players’ Player of the Season, and the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year awards.
Internationally, the 27-year-old continues to shine for Jamaica, recently leading the Reggae Girlz to a 3-0 friendly victory over South Africa in Montego Bay with a brace.
Shaw was also among 16 elite players nominated for The Best FIFA Women’s Player of the Year award.
The Guardian’s list is topped by Spain and Barcelona star Aitana Bonmatí, who retains her position following a remarkable season that included Champions League glory and a second consecutive Ballon d’Or.
Joining Bonmatí in the top three are Barcelona and Norway forward Caroline Graham Hansen and Portland Thorns and USA striker Sophia Smith. Washington Spirit’s Trinity Rodman rounds out the top five.
Other notable players in the top 10 include Lindsey Horan, Barbra Banda, Salma Paralluelo, Mallory Swanson, and Naomi Girma.
Caribbean football was further recognised with Haiti and Olympique Lyon midfielder Melchie Dumornay ranked 29th. She joins Shaw as the only Caribbean representatives on the list, sitting two spots below Brazilian legend Marta.
