Jamaica Shaken by 5.3 Magnitude Earthquake
Jamaica experienced a magnitude 5.3 earthquake at around 8:01 AM on Friday morning.
The Earthquake Unit reported that the epicenter was located approximately 6 kilometers northeast of Golden Spring, St. Andrew.
The tremor was felt across the island, with some vendors at the Brown’s Town market in St. Ann reportedly briefly leaving their stalls during the shaking.
This earthquake is the second to hit Jamaica this week.
On Monday afternoon, a minor quake with a magnitude of 2.9 was recorded in Mavis Bank, St. Andrew, at 3:51 PM.
In addition, several Caribbean nations also experienced seismic activity earlier in the week.
On Tuesday, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake affected St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, and Barbados, following a 3.5 magnitude quake two days prior that impacted Dominica, St. Lucia, and Martinique.
