Jamaica vice-captain becomes third Reggae Boy to tackle Saudi Pro League

Damion Lowe will be eager to impress new Reggae Boyz head coach Steve McClaren, having moved to the highly-lucrative Saudi Pro League on Friday.

The Kingston-born defender, son of former Jamaican international ace Onandi Lowe, signed a two-year deal with Al-Akhdoud from Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Philadelphia Union.

The club is based in the southern region of Saudi Arabia in Najran. They are managed by former Croatian international Stjepan Tomas, who was a defensive midfielder in his hey-day, who only joined Al-Akhdoud in July.

If McClaren is keeping an eye on players in this division, then he can cast his eye over three potential influential stars who have shined for the Boyz.

Jamaica vice-captain Lowe, 31, joins fellow Boyz’ Andre Gray (Al-Riyadh SC) and Demarai Gray (Al-Ettifaq), in the Saudi Pro League.

Lowe, who made his debut for the Boyz against Guyana in 2016, said: “Playing in the Saudi Pro League is a thrilling new chapter in my career. The recent passion for football there is incredible, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.

“I’m eager to bring my best to the pitch, embrace the culture and make an impact both on and off the field.”
