Young Reggae Boyz Suffer Second Defeat in Concacaf Under-20 Championship
Jamaica’s hopes of advancing in the Concacaf Under-20 Championship took a significant blow following a 3-0 loss to Costa Rica at the Estadio Miguel Alemán in Mexico on Monday.
This marks their second consecutive defeat in the tournament.
The match began with Costa Rica dominating possession, putting the Jamaican team under pressure from the outset.
Despite several clear-cut chances, the Costa Ricans were unable to convert in the first half, leaving the scoreline at 0-0 at the break.
Jamaica had a brief opportunity to take the lead midway through the first half but failed to capitalise on their chance.
The game remained scoreless until the 51st minute when Claudio Montero scored from the penalty spot after a Jamaican defender brought down a Costa Rican attacker in the box.
Costa Rica continued to control the game, and their efforts paid off again in the 67th minute. Andy Rojas scored with a low strike to double the lead, putting the Ticos firmly in control.
The situation worsened for Jamaica in the 71st minute when Makai Bond Welsh received a red card after an altercation with the referee, reducing the Reggae Boyz to ten men.
Jamaica’s third and final Group match will be against Cuba on Thursday.
