Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Kicks Off Season with Victory in 100m

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce began her season with a cautious yet successful start, winning her 100m heat at the JAAA Olympic French Foray III meet at the National Stadium on Saturday night.

The 37-year-old sprinter came from behind to edge out Jodean Williams at the finish line, clocking 11.15 seconds—the fastest time across all seven heats.

This performance marks the beginning of Fraser-Pryce’s quest for a ninth Olympic medal at the Paris Games, set to begin on July 26.

This race was Fraser-Pryce’s first competitive appearance since the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, nearly 10 months ago, and comes just 12 days before Jamaica’s Olympic trials, scheduled for June 27-30.

Earlier this year, Fraser-Pryce told Essence.com that she intends to retire after the Paris Olympics to spend more time with her husband and their 6-year-old son, Zyon.
