Khadija Shaw’s Brace Helps Send Manchester City Three Points Clear in WSL
Manchester City Women extended their lead at the top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) with an emphatic 5-0 victory over West Ham.
Spearheading the triumph was Jamaican international Khadija Shaw, who netted two crucial goals.
The encounter kicked off with a lightning-fast start for City as Leila Ouahabi capitalised on Jess Park’s precise cross in the very first minute, setting the tone for their relentless attack.
Shaw wasted no time in making her mark, finding the top corner of the net just moments later, swiftly followed by a rocketed header to secure her 50th WSL goal in only 57 appearances,.
As City sealed their record-breaking 13th consecutive win, Laura Blindkilde and Park added to the onslaught with two goals in the final 10 minutes, sealing a resounding victory.
However, Shaw’s stellar performance was cut short as she was substituted at halftime due to a suspected knee injury, dampening the celebrations for the City faithful.
Elsewhere in the league, Arsenal secured their third successive league win with a convincing 3-0 triumph over Leicester, courtesy of Beth Mead’s clinical brace, maintaining the pressure on league leaders City.
