Jamaican Taxpayers Foot Over $300 Million Monthly Streetlight Bill

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie has disclosed that Jamaican taxpayers are burdened with a monthly streetlight bill exceeding 300 million dollars.

The revelation was made during the swearing-in ceremony of councilors at the Trelawny Municipal Corporation.

McKenzie highlighted that each month, contributions from taxpayers are utilised by the government to settle streetlight bills owed to the Jamaica Public Service (JPS), amounting to over 300 million dollars.

However, he assured that apart from the current bill, the government has managed to clear its streetlight arrears.

Expressing concerns over the quality of service provided by the JPS, McKenzie urged the utility company to enhance its service delivery by promptly repairing streetlights.

In response to the challenges faced, McKenzie announced his intention to schedule a meeting with the JPS to address various issues affecting the populace.
