Jamaica Achieves Record Visitor Arrivals and Tourism Revenue in January-February 2024

Jamaica welcomed over one million visitors and generated tourism earnings exceeding US$1 billion in the first two months of 2024.

This achievement, heralded as unprecedented by Tourism Minister Hon. Edmund Bartlett, marks a significant triumph amidst challenging global conditions.

Addressing the press at the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) in New Kingston during the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Caribbean Travel Marketplace on Thursday, March 14, Minister Bartlett expressed elation over the record-breaking statistics.

He emphasised that such a feat had never been witnessed in Jamaica’s history, attributing it to the country’s unwavering trajectory in the face of adversity.

The influx of visitors during the January to February period comprised over 600,000 stopover tourists and more than 300,000 cruise passengers.

Minister Bartlett highlighted a notable seven percent increase in stopover visitors and an impressive 29 percent surge in cruise passengers compared to the previous year.

Moreover, the remarkable earnings of $1 billion represent an 8.8 percent upsurge from the corresponding period last year.

Minister Bartlett underscored the significance of these achievements in the context of the Ministry’s ambitious projections. With the current trajectory pointing towards continued growth, he expressed confidence in Jamaica’s ability to achieve the target of hosting five million visitors and earning US$5 billion by 2025.

The minister’s optimism is buoyed by Jamaica’s tourism performance in the preceding year, where the island welcomed more than four million visitors and earned US$4.2 billion.
