Excitement Builds Ahead of 2024 ISSA Boys and Girls Athletics Championship

As anticipation mounts for the upcoming 2024 ISSA Boys and Girls Athletics Championship, slated to kick off on Wednesday at the National Stadium, fans and athletes alike are gearing up for what promises to be an exhilarating showcase of talent and fierce competition.

Reigning title-holders, Kingston College, will likely find themselves in a tight race against Jamaica College, Calabar, and St Jago on the boys’ front, while on the girls’ side, defending champions Hydel are poised to defend their title against powerhouses such as Edwin Allen, St Jago, and Holmwood Technical.

This year’s championship will witness participation from 198 schools, with 101 boys’ teams and 97 girls’ teams gearing up to showcase their prowess on the track and field.

Edwin Allen are favourites to reclaim the girls’ title they lost to Hydel last year, setting the stage for an intense battle for supremacy among the top contenders.

The action-packed event is set to commence at 9 am, with the preliminaries of the class three girls’ 1500 meters race kicking off the proceedings.

Throughout the first day, spectators can expect electrifying races in the 100 meters preliminaries for both boys and girls, alongside the 400 meters, 400 meters hurdles, and the challenging 2000 meters steeplechase.

A total of 88 events will be contested over the five-day championship, with the highly anticipated class one boys’ and girls’ 100 meters finals scheduled to headline the opening night on Wednesday.
