American Company Achieves Historic Moon Landing
An American company has become the first commercial outfit to successfully land a spacecraft on the Moon.
Houston-based Intuitive Machines made headlines by deploying its Odysseus robot near the lunar south pole.
After a tense few minutes, controllers confirmed the craft’s safe touchdown when a signal was received.
Flight director Tim Crain jubilantly announced the successful landing and transmission of equipment from the lunar surface, sparking cheers and applause among company staff.
This achievement not only marks a significant step forward in commercial space exploration but also ends the United States’ fifty-year hiatus from lunar landings.
NASA, which had purchased space on Odysseus for six scientific instruments, quickly extended its congratulations, with administrator Bill Nelson hailing the accomplishment as a “triumph” for the US space program.
