Khadija Shaw Acknowledges Usain Bolt’s Guidance as Key Factor in Her Current Goal-Scoring Form
Manchester City striker Khadija Shaw has credited Olympic champion Usain Bolt for inspiring her prolific goal-scoring run in the Women’s Super League (WSL).
Shaw, currently leading the Golden Boot race with an impressive nine goals in as many games, has revealed the valuable advice she received from the legendary sprinter.
The Jamaican striker, named the Player of the Month for December, opened up about her close relationship with Bolt, stating, “He’s always been supportive. We speak about my progress. We have a good relationship.
“When he’s in town, he lets me know, and we will link up. In certain aspects, if I’m struggling, whether that means strength work, I’ll reach out to him.”
The pivotal conversation between Shaw and Bolt took place in March, where the sprinting icon shared insights on areas where Shaw could gain an advantage over defenders.
Shaw emphasised the significance of Bolt’s advice, noting, “He told me some things I could work on where I could get an edge over defenders, and stuff like that. It’s just the little things, and he always says the little things matter the most.”
Shaw, who joined Manchester City in 2021, has established herself as a goal-scoring force in women’s football.
In the previous season, she netted an impressive 20 goals in 22 WSL games and 31 in all competitions.
With her eyes set on securing Manchester City’s first WSL title since 2016, Shaw’s exceptional form has positioned the team as strong contenders, currently sitting second in the WSL table, just three points behind leaders Chelsea.
