Usain Bolt Unfazed as Athletes Attempt to Break His Records
In a recent interview with World Athletics, Usain Bolt, the legendary sprinter and eight-time Olympic gold medalist, revealed that he is not worried at the prospect of his world records in the 100m and 200m events being broken.
Bolt’s world records of 9.58 seconds in the 100m and 19.19 seconds in the 200m were set at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Germany.
Despite the vocal ambitions of athletes such as Fred Kerley, Ferdinand Omanyala, and Noah Lyles, who have all expressed their intent to break Bolt’s records, the Jamaican sprinter remains unconcerned.
Kerley, the 2022 World 100m Champion, boasts a personal best of 9.76 seconds, Omanyala, the 2022 Commonwealth Champion, holds a personal best of 9.77 seconds, and Lyles, the World Athletics Male Athlete of the Year for 2023, recorded a personal best of 9.83 seconds earlier this year.
Bolt acknowledges the challenges of breaking the 100m record, citing its technical nature and the minimal margin for error during the race.
He anticipates that the 100m record may be the last to fall, noting the speed and precision required for success.
Regarding the 200m record, Bolt acknowledges that Lyles, with a personal best of 19.31 seconds, is not far off. However, the sprinting icon remains unfazed, stating, “Not worried about any of them.”
Reflecting on his legacy as the fastest man ever, Bolt expresses pride in the title, describing it as “a great title to have” and something he enjoys hearing.
He also emphasised the importance of the energy and vibes from the fans, highlighting the role they played throughout his illustrious career.
