Salt’s Century Powers England to Decisive T20 Victory Over West Indies
England secured a dominant 75-run victory against the West Indies in the T20 series, levelling it 2-2 and setting the stage for a decisive final match.
Phil Salt’s remarkable century, scoring 119 off 57 balls, propelled England to their highest-ever T20 score of 267 for three.
This surpassed their previous record against New Zealand in 2019.
Salt’s innings featured 10 sixes, establishing a new benchmark for the highest T20 score by an Englishman and making him the first male player from England with two three-figure scores in the format.
Jos Buttler contributed with a half-century, smashing three sixes in his 55-run contribution to an opening stand of 117 in 9.5 overs.
Despite Buttler’s dismissal, Salt continued the onslaught alongside Livingstone, who finished unbeaten with 54 off 21 balls.
England equalled their T20 record for the most sixes in a match with 20.
The Windies faced a daunting target of 268 for victory, a world-record chase, but were ultimately bowled out for 192 in 15.3 overs.
Reece Topley claimed three wickets for 37 runs, while Sam Curran and Rehan Ahmed each took two wickets.
Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, and Adil Rashid also contributed with a wicket each.
Moeen Ali provided an early breakthrough for England by dismissing Brandon King on the first ball.
Despite a spirited chase, with notable performances from Pooran, Rutherford, and Russell, the Windies fell short.
Russell’s aggressive 51 off 25 balls wasn’t enough, as Topley’s crucial catch by Brook secured England’s comprehensive victory.
