Jamaican Boxer Kemahl ‘The Hitman’ Russell Dominates Comeback, Clinches Newcomer-of-the-Year Award
Jamaican middleweight sensation Kemahl ‘The Hitman’ Russell has made a triumphant return to the ring after a five-year hiatus.
The Toronto-based fighter, representing ‘United Boxing Promotions,’ emerged victorious in all three of his 2023 bouts, securing the prestigious Newcomer-of-the-Year award.
Russell’s remarkable year commenced on April 29th, where he faced Argentina’s Marcos Jesus Cornejo and claimed a decisive knockout victory.
His momentum continued on September 9th, overpowering Mexico’s Juan Carlos Raygosa with another knockout.
The grand finale of his stellar comeback was a knockout win over former Mexican Champion Rafael Amarillas Ortiz on December 2nd.
United Boxing Promotion boss Tyler Buxton announced the accolade on December 28th, praising Russell’s impact.
With a flawless record of three fights, three knockouts, and a growing fan base, Russell’s return has been nothing short of spectacular.
Trained under the expertise of Ryan ‘RG’ Grant at Grant’s MMA, Russell’s trainer sees this award as a stepping stone for what’s to come.
Looking ahead to 2024, Grant envisions Russell making significant moves in the middleweight division, setting the stage for potential dominance.
Buxton shares the optimism, expecting Russell to break into the top 15 by the end of 2024.
While such expectations might overwhelm some, Russell exudes confidence. The Jamaican boxer, now free of any lingering ring rust, anticipates an even more exciting year ahead.
“I moved through the middleweight rankings, made a mark, and gained new fans. Next year will be even more exciting,” Russell affirms.
