Craig Butler’s Mona High Clinches First-Ever Manning Cup Title!
On Friday night, Mona High emerged triumphant, securing their first urban area ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup football title with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Hydel High.
The historic victory was orchestrated by the astute coaching of Craig Butler, as Demarco Harris netted the lone goal in the 10th minute of the match.
Established in 1979, the 44-year-old Mona High showcased their dominance from the start, asserting control and seizing the lead, which they maintained until the final whistle.
The victory not only marked a significant milestone for Mona High but makes them the 15th school to claim the Manning Cup, a competition steeped in history since its inception 114 years ago in 1909.
Regrettably, the post-match celebration took an unfortunate turn as unpleasant scenes ensued, prompting the Inter-Secondary School Sports Association (ISSA) to cancel the Manning Cup presentation.
However, the turn of events in the aftermath did not overshadow the historic achievement of Mona High, Craig Butler, and the dedicated players who etched their names into the annals of Manning Cup history.
