Clarendon College Secures Seventh Olivier Shield Title with Dominant 4-0 Victory Over Mona High
Clarendon College has extended their schoolboy football dominance by clinching the Olivier Shield with a resounding 4-0 victory over Mona High.
This triumph marks their seventh Olivier Shield title since the competition’s inception 114 years ago in 1909.
Player of the season, Kaheim Dixon, set the tone by heading in a corner kick in the 35th minute, while Deandre Gallimore doubled the lead in the 70th minute.
Christopher Hull sealed the victory with two goals in the 84th and 87th minutes.
Coach Lenworth Hyde, himself a key player in their 1977 win, expressed his joy, commending the team’s hard work throughout the season.
Despite a valiant effort from Mona High, highlighted by Romarioan Thomas’s close-range header and Denzil McKenzie’s near miss, Clarendon College maintained control.
Mona High’s coach, Craig Butler, conceded that his team failed to capitalise on opportunities.
“Clarendon College today was the better team, and we have to give them their props and show them their respect,” said Butler.
The victory comes just five days after Mona High secured their first-ever victory in the urban area Manning Cup.
The Olivier Shield, contested by the daCosta Cup and Manning Cup winners, solidifies Clarendon College’s status as the best schoolboy football team in the country, capping a remarkable season of success.
