Xavier Gilbert Continues to Lead the Reggae Girlz
Coach Xavier Gilbert has been confirmed to remain at the helm of the national senior Reggae Girlz team for the duration of the Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup qualifiers, which are set to conclude on December 3.
This announcement was made by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) yesterday.
Gilbert, a former national under-17 team coach, will oversee the team’s upcoming matches, including the return leg qualifier against Panama scheduled for November 29 at the National Stadium and a crucial encounter against Guatemala in Guatemala on December 3.
Xavier Gilbert was initially appointed as the interim head coach after the JFF decided not to renew the contract of World Cup coach Lorne Donaldson at the end of September.
Since then, he has been tasked with guiding the hastily assembled Reggae Girlz squad in the Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup qualifying competition.
In their first two matches, the team secured a valuable point with a 2-2 draw against Guatemala.
In preparation for the upcoming fixtures against Panama and Guatemala, Gilbert is expected to hold a training camp in Jamaica with the team.
Furthermore, he plans to expand the player pool by inviting additional talent to strengthen the squad that previously faced Panama and Guatemala.
As of now, the Reggae Girls find themselves at the bottom of the three-team table, having secured one point from their first two matches.
Panama leads the group with an impressive six points from three matches, while Guatemala currently occupies the second position with four points from three matches.
The Jamaican team, under Coach Xavier Gilbert’s leadership, will undoubtedly be working hard to improve their standing in the competition, as they strive to qualify for the prestigious Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup.
