The University of Technology (UTech) has announced that it will confer an Honorary Doctorate of Law on Shericka Jackson, the back-to-back world 200-meter champion, during its upcoming graduation ceremony this month.

In an official statement released by UTech, the university expressed its intention to honour Jackson for her remarkable achievements in the field of sprinting and her substantial contributions to nation-building.

This recognition comes as Jackson herself pursues a bachelor’s degree in sport science, showcasing her commitment to both her athletic career and academic pursuits.

Shericka Jackson, who recently claimed the title of 2023 Diamond League winner in both the 100 and 200 meters, has also been listed as one of 11 nominees for the prestigious 2023 World Athlete Female of the Year award.

Her nomination is well-deserved, given her stellar performances on the Diamond League circuit and her outstanding showing at this year’s World Athletics Championship in Budapest.

Notably, the 29-year-old athlete successfully defended her 200-meter title in Budapest, delivering an exceptional performance in a blistering time of 21.41 seconds.

This time stands as the second-fastest in the history of the event, solidifying Jackson’s place among the world’s elite sprinters.

The upcoming graduation ceremony at the University of Technology promises to be a momentous occasion, as Shericka Jackson’s achievements, dedication, and contribution to her sport and her country are celebrated with the bestowment of an Honorary Doctorate of Law.

The graduation ceremony will take place on November 18.
